So one of the biggest things standing in our way for this project was production of the wheels. Task one in the marathon carriage dealio becomes setting up to produce our own in house. Here I have a stack of steel marathon style wheels that are tacked and ready for final welding.
Most of the creative design work for a project like this will rattle around in my head for a while. Sometimes it’s fun to put pencil to paper. Other times I start sticking metal together just to see where it lands. This project is more the result of the latter. I am in the early fabrication stages here and the rough design begins to take shape.
I’ll always use bent shapes where I can over making square corners building a vehicle. It adds to the challenge but the design results can be so much more impressive. Yours truly fitting the side bumper rails and supports to the main frame.
The form of the vehicle begins to taking shape. So far I’m liking what I see but the real test of this bad boy will be out on course. It’s solid, light weight, good looking and I am confident it will perform well. Sometimes the best part my job is getting involved in projects like this. It can be intense and I bury myself in the dirt of the shop for long days that seem to just fly.
